Monte Creek ICF Home

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

For this project the home owner chose to do the vast majority of the exterior walls out of ICF (insulated concrete forms) for the purpose of durability and energy efficiency. This creates some unique challenges for accommodating doors and windows in the thicker walls. Other accommodations must also be made for interior and exterior finishes.

Building with Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) offers numerous benefits. Firstly, ICF provides exceptional energy efficiency, significantly reducing heating and cooling costs due to its high insulation properties. Additionally, ICF structures offer superior durability and resilience against natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes, providing homeowners with increased safety and peace of mind. Furthermore, the airtightness of ICF construction minimizes drafts and enhances indoor air quality, creating comfortable and healthy living environments. Overall, building with ICF ensures long-term sustainability, comfort, and cost savings for homeowners.

The finished product was a spacious two story walk out basement home by the river with 50’x70′ garage with 15′ ceilings. A beautiful view of the river was made all the less interupted with the use of a steel truss for carrying the extension of the roof line over the deck. The look was carried around the exterior of the building using the same I-beam steel for deck and roof overhang posts.

Sahali Passive Home

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This new home build prioritized energy efficiency, employing an innovative double stud method for the exterior walls. By essentially combining two separately framed walls into a single system, this approach not only allows for increased insulation but also eliminates thermal bridging, a major contributor to heat loss. Additionally, the use of insulating sheathing further enhances the building’s energy performance, resulting in significant savings on heating costs and improved sound insulation. The outcome is a highly efficient structure that not only keeps energy costs down but also provides a quieter and more comfortable living environment.

Brocklehurst Detached Shop

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This shop in Brocklehurst was constructed on a raft slab, seamlessly integrating footings and slab into a single pour for unparalleled efficiency. By consolidating these elements, significant time was saved on excavation and forming, eliminating the need for separate footings, frost walls, and slab pours. Insulation was strategically placed underneath and around the sides to prepare for heating, ensuring optimal energy performance.”

“Utilizing a double stud framing technique, the structure’s energy efficiency was further enhanced. This method involved constructing a 2×6 thick wall with 2×4 studs alternated between the interior and exterior faces, effectively minimizing thermal bridging and heat transfer. The exterior was meticulously clad with Hardie plank and smart trim, with added rock details on the front corners for enhanced aesthetics, resulting in a stunning shop that significantly expanded the property’s usable space.”

“The thoughtful attention to insulation and energy efficiency measures not only contributed to the building’s beauty but also promises long-term cost savings on heating expenses. This meticulously crafted shop stands as a testament to our commitment to quality construction and sustainable practices, ensuring lasting comfort and value for years to come.
