PROJECT DESCRIPTION
For this project the home owner chose to do the vast majority of the exterior walls out of ICF (insulated concrete forms) for the purpose of durability and energy efficiency. This creates some unique challenges for accommodating doors and windows in the thicker walls. Other accommodations must also be made for interior and exterior finishes.
Building with Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) offers numerous benefits. Firstly, ICF provides exceptional energy efficiency, significantly reducing heating and cooling costs due to its high insulation properties. Additionally, ICF structures offer superior durability and resilience against natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes, providing homeowners with increased safety and peace of mind. Furthermore, the airtightness of ICF construction minimizes drafts and enhances indoor air quality, creating comfortable and healthy living environments. Overall, building with ICF ensures long-term sustainability, comfort, and cost savings for homeowners.
The finished product was a spacious two story walk out basement home by the river with 50’x70′ garage with 15′ ceilings. A beautiful view of the river was made all the less interupted with the use of a steel truss for carrying the extension of the roof line over the deck. The look was carried around the exterior of the building using the same I-beam steel for deck and roof overhang posts.
